Parietal fibrinous peritonitis in cattle: A literature review

Background: Parietal fibrinous peritonitis (PFP) is a complication of laparotomy in cattle, consisting fluid and fibrin accumulation within fibrous capsule between the parietal peritoneum abdominal muscles. Since scientific information on PFP scarce, we aim to collect available help practitioners its diagnosis treatment, formulate research perspectives. Methods: PubMed GoogleScholar databases were scanned using “cattle” or “bovine”, one following keywords: “seroma”, “parietal peritonitis”, “retroperitoneal abscess”, “wound infection”. Results: Although often anecdotal, two recent larger studies shed more light symptoms, treatment. Symptoms vary according cavity's localisation size, include anorexia, weight loss an inflammatory status. Rectal palpation strongly indicative, but definitive made by ultrasound. Trueperella pyogenes Escherichia coli are frequently isolated germs, although it remains unclear whether they primary secondary agents. Good survival rates reported after surgical drainage. Conclusion: treatment seem clear, exact pathogenesis should be focus ongoing research. This can achieved epidemiological data analysis focusing risk factors like surgery technique, housing ration.
